Margaret really loves her country home in the south of England, but her father decides to give up his job and move to Milton, an industrial town in the north. Margaret has to get used to everything, including how weeeeeeiiiiiirrrrrd the people in the south are. Allegedly there’s also some romance in the book, but I’m afraid I have to admit that I never got to that part because I didn’t finish the book and I have no intention of doing so. It’s all very educational – the dialogue, the narrative, the characters, nothing seems very authentic (but then, who am I to tell). Many people seem to love this book though (it has an incredibly high rating on Goodreads), so maybe give it a try.
